Palestinian prisoner Nassar Taqatqa has passed away on Tuesday while in solitary confinement at Nitzan Israeli jail.

The Prisoners Information Centre said on Tuesday that Taqatqa, from Beit Fujjar in Bethlehem, was killed under torture and due to medical negligence while he was kept in solitary confinement.

The centre added that the IPS has closed all jails to visits after the murder of Nassar Taqatqa.

Taqatqa was arrested in June 19, 2019 and has been under investigation until the time of his murder.

The centre rejected all Israeli claims regarding the murder of Taqatqa. The victim’s family also stated that Nassar didn’t have any health problems and that it was the first time for him to be arrested.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club held Israeli authorities responsible for the murder of Taqatqa and for the fate of all other prisoners.

Taqatqa has been murdered during the investigation period, in which prisoners are subjected to the most painful physical and psychological torture.

B’Tselem Israeli human rights centre had revealed in a previous report that “Israel’s interrogation regime relies on isolating interrogatees from the outside world and uses holding conditions to weaken interrogatees in body and spirit. The cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment – at times amounting to torture – is a blatant violation of international law and basic moral standards.”
